COSMIC Centre Launch

1 September 2010: The Centre of Social Media Innovations for Communities (COSMIC) has been launched. The founding member institutions of COSMIC are the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The centre is supported by the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted by the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore. IDMPO was established in 2006 under the mandate of the National Research Foundation (NRF) to deepen Singapore’s research capabilities in interactive digital media (IDM), fuel innovation and shape the future of media.

NIF provides a guide and resource base for innovations at the grass roots level.

- DA (Visioned by Ashok Khosla) is an NGO that has aims to create sustainable livelihoods in large numbers. - e-Choupal is an initiative of ITC Limited, a large multi business conglomerate in India, making use of the internet to inform and support farmers for procurement of agricultural and aquaculture products like soybeans, wheat, coffee, and prawns.

. Technology for Emerging Markets at MSR India
- This group seeks to address the needs and aspirations of people in the world's developing communities. Our research targets people who are increasingly consuming computing technologies and services as well as those for whom access to computing remains largely out of reach.

. Azim Premji Foundation
- The Foundation works in the area of education to pilot and develop 'proofs of concept' that have a potential for systemic change in India's 1.3 million government-run schools. In December 2010, Azim Premji pledged to donate $2 billion for improving school education in India..
